Antoine Lavoisier - Father of modern chemistry

This chap is by all accounts the father of modern chemistry.  He also had the misfortune of being on the wrong side of the French Revolution and was sent to the guillotine!  I did wonder whether he was thinking about science or his fate whilst doing this.

The sketch was live at the Scottish National Gallery and the watercolour when I had a bit more time.

Later edit - just learned a bit more about Lavoisier.  He's credited as being the one to correctly identify oxygen as an element and end the given wisdom that since Greek times maintained that the universe contained 4 elements - Earth, Water, Fire and Air.

Saint Paul's and St George's Episcopal Church

This church was opposite the hotel we were staying in.  I thought I would pop in on the Sunday and they were practising for the evening service.  They were actually very good.  They offered me an evening meal but we already had plans - a very nice group of people.

Jamie the hearing dog

Put this together on the last night Jamie the hearing dog stayed with us.  Struggled a bit with Michael's skin colour.

Sleeping sunbather

We caught Michael sleeping with a pair of sunglasses on.  It was done in 2012, but I never got round to posting till now.

Mikey moo

Dashed this one out and it's the first one that doesn't make Michael look like he is 90 years old.

Choir practice

Did this one some time ago with watercolour pencils.  I no longer use these as they are very unpredictable and can't be layered.

Tree by the stile

Went to Nick's house to check out the fisherman's lodge and my eye was caught by this tree. Had to stop because the rain started lashing down.

Louisiana, Bristol

On location sketch of Sennen Time a performer at the Louisiana pub in bristol.  The performances take place in a whitewashed cellar in the basement - the sound was great.

Glasgow rooftop

My little effort late September in a rooftop restaurant in Glasgow.  Sketch was done on site and the watercolour done at my leisure later on.  The meal wasn't bad too.

Small beginnings

Live sketch down at West Wycombe.  My first effort using the Winsor and Newton travel watercolours.  With the colour range available it will be difficult to go back to the watercolour pencils.
